Visits

Last night we went to see the boys and we got to show them off a bit. I actually felt like I had babies because now someone else has actually seen them. We had to sign in which is new to me, usually I am just wheeled in and I sit there and talk to the nurse or whatever. Last night I had to sign in and there were some men who were taking their sweet time signing in. I kept asking the lady behind the desk if I could just come right back and sign in because my babies were about to eat. She said no. Mean lady-I don't feel so bad for not signing out. So finally I get the pen and scribble a bunch of stuff and practically knock them down to get into the POD. I get to hold Lucas and watch Easton. They both had their "glasses" off and it was the first time I have walked in with them off. They looked better to me because of that or maybe it was because I had left them and was back. I didn't know how bad I missed them until I held him. I felt so much better-it was like my happy drug. We went back this morning and was very surprised that we got to get both of them out and hold them at the same time. We held them for an hour and that is the longest we have ever held them. Milestone? Well not to the nurses but to me-HUGE DEAL! We had them out together and could really compare for once. I was able to talk to the nurse practioner (not once have I had a convo with the doctors but the nurses seem pretty well informed) . She said they were off the iv fluids for now, increasing feeding amounts today (one bottle and the rest via feeding tube), but their Bilirubins (sp?) had gone up on Easton and done on Lucas. She said that is not a big deal. They will check it again tomorrow but with preemies they hit a peak at about 4 or 5 days old and it could just be a peak. Easton is about 3 grams shy of 4 lbs I think and Lucas is just a little over 4 lbs. Their weights go back and forth daily. I asked her if she could give us a timetable and she said no one can. I told her someone had told us two weeks at first so I just needed an idea (only for my sanity). She told me all of the things they had to pass before they were able to leave but they look good and are on track. She said usually it is around their full term date which in our case was 37 weeks (they were born at 34 weeks). I don't think I am going to let this date settle with me because I don't want to get my hopes up. We don't want them home until they are ready (not like they would let us anyway) but I just need a goal. We also asked if they had found out if they were identical yet (when they were born Dr McKee told Mike he thought they were identical because they looked alike so they sent something off for testing). She told us I had to ask my OB (not Dr McKee-he was just assisting that night) and that she would be able to tell me. She said they had the same blood type so it was possible. I called my doctor and they said it could be a month before we know. Not that it matters but it would just be nice to know. I have some twin info searching to do this weekend so I can see how that works. And also, to compare their pictures. To me Lucas looks like a little old man (he cried today when I told him but he really does) and Easton looks just like Aiden. I guess they can be identical but not look alike. For this weekend we are visiting everyday but after that we may start taking turns (not sure I am gonna like it) or I go in the morning and Mike go before work-depending on my driving -I plan to try to break free soon, like tomorrow. But this way we can keep the girls with one of us and stop shuffling them around even though they do not mind but it will keep them in a routine. And one day next week I hope to do something with just the girls but I think it is going to rain. Maybe, I will feel up to the Galleria because they love the Galleria.
